MEXICO: Monterrey metro operator Metrorrey hopes to launch limited services on parts of monorail lines 4 and 6 when the city hosts FIFA World Cup matches in June, but the start of full passenger service is not now expected until 2027, and there is no confirmed date.

The state government of Nuevo León had intended to open substantial parts of both lines before the city hosts its FIFA World Cup matches, but earlier this year it reported that the two routes were only about 78% complete.

A consortium of Mota Engil de México, SAPI de CV, CRRC Hong Kong and CRRC Nanjing Puzhen was awarded a 25·8bn pesos turnkey contract in September 2022 to build three monorail lines in Monterrey. However, the planned Line 5 was subsequently dropped in favour of bus rapid transit.

Line 4 is to run 7.5 km west from Hospital de Ginecología & Obstetricia to Pablo G Garza, while Line 6 will run 9.1 km northeast from the hospital to Apodaca.

CRRC Nanjing Puzhen is supplying 13 six-car monorail trainsets with capacity for 720 passengers each. These are designed for GoA4 fully automated operation at up to 80 km/h.
