ARGENTINA: Trenes Argentinos has awarded a consortium led by CRRC Tangshan a contract to supply 43 diesel multiple-units for use on the Área Metropolitana de Buenos Aires suburban network.
The winner was the sole bidder in the tendering process. The order is being financed through a loan from consortium member China Rainbow International Investment Corp.
CRRC Tangshan is to supply 36 three-car sets for use on the 1 676 mm broad gauge Mitre, San Martín, Roca and Sarmiento lines and seven six-car 1 000 mm gauge sets for the Belgrano Sur line, where they will strengthen the existing fleet of CRRC sets and enable the withdrawal of the remaining older rolling stock.
The contract includes technical documentation, commissioning services and the supply of spare parts and components for three years of maintenance.
CRRC Tangshan-manufactured trainsets are currently operating on the Belgrano Sur line and on the Quebrada de Humahuaca Tourist Train. It was also recently awarded a contract to supply trainsets for the Mendoza commuter rail network, including three three-car units similar to those now ordered for AMBA.
