Alstom is set to continue its long-standing partnership with Statens Järnvägar (SJ) following the latter’s award of a new fleet operation contract from Västtrafik, which will see Alstom provide ongoing rolling stock maintenance for the Västtågen fleet.

The new, 11-year maintenance agreement between the two parties has been valued at just under 200 million EUR, and will officially commence in December 2027.

Since 2012, Västtågen has been the commercial brand name for the regional railway lines operated by Västtrafik in western Sweden

As part of the agreement, Alstom will now be held responsible for a number of greater maintenance responsibilities, which will encompass heavy maintenance of vehicles and components, as well as a strong focus on the development and implementation of the company’s own digital maintenance solutions.

Work has now begun on a preliminary a preparation phase, which itself is expected to last approximately 20 months.

Mikael Granberg, Rolling Stock Maintenance for Nordics at Alstom, said:

We are very pleased to have been entrusted once again with responsibility for the maintenance and rolling stock development of Västtågen, the result of our strong collaboration with SJ.

I would also like to extend a sincere thank you to our technicians and all other employees working with this today. It is thanks to their commitment and consistently high quality of delivery that we have strengthened our position in the region.
