INNOTRANS: Siemens Mobility is to demonstrate its AutomatedTrain project duing the InnoTrans trade show later this year. The company will showcase the automated operation of a Mireo trainset at the Havelländische Eisenbahn stabling facility at Berlin-Spandau, the manufacturer has told Railway Gazette International.

A Mireo multiple-unit will be equipped for GoA4 unattended operation as well as with intelligent sensors for environmental perception. It will feature an ETCS onboard unit, ATO, a train control management system, Advanced Vehicle Vital Operation, an obstacle-detection system, a digital map and real-time localisation.

The train will demonstrate a variety of pre-movement checks and automated preparation for departure, as well as sending ready for departure status to the operational control centre. After getting the start command, the vehicle will then move fully auonomously at a maximum speed of 40 km/h to the departure road of the stabling site.

The project AutomatedTrain project started in 2023 and is being carried out in partnership with Deutsche Bahn, Bosch Engineering, Codewerk, Duagon Germany, IAV, Red Hat and Technische Universität Dresden.

Forming part of the Digital Schiene Deutschland digital rail initiative, the project received €42.6m from the federal government with co-financing from the European Union’s Development & Resilience Fund.

Building on AutomatedTrain, Siemens Mobility started its €17m RemODtrAIn (Remote operated train with AI based Obstacle Detection) project at the end of last year.
