At a high-level forum in Vilnius, Rail Baltica countries and top EU officials alike pressed the case that rapid cross-border rail deployment now sat at the heart of Europe’s defence posture. However, the warning remained that costly megaprojects such as Rail Baltica could not continue to rely on public funding alone. But with alternative financing models carrying the risk of further delay and rising costs, RB’s chief also warned that “security threats do not wait for funding mechanisms to adapt to them.”
