Hafeet Rail, a joint venture from Etihad Rail, Oman Rail and the Mubadala Investment Company (Mubadala), has announced that the Oman-UAE rail connection project has reached 40% completion.

The project, which spans 238 kilometres, aims to develop an integrated, high-efficiency transport and logistics system that will support trade flow, enhance supply chain resilience and contributes to the overall economic integration between the two nations.

Construction along the route is now progressing rapidly, including in the Al Ain Region, Al Buraimi, Sohar, and Wadi Al Jizzi. The corridor spans a number of diverse landscapes, all of which require specialised engineering solutions, including large-scale excavation, the construction of major bridges and tunnels, and the implementation of a network of integrated flood protection systems.

Abdulrahman Al Hatmi, CEO of Asyad Group in the Sultanate of Oman and partner of Hafeet Rail, said:

The pace of implementation reflects our shared commitment to launching this project and delivering passenger and freight services according to schedule.

This progress builds upon the foundations established through the development of the railway sector in the Sultanate of Oman since the launch of Oman Rail, which formed the original vision and strategic foundation for this initiative.

We are proud today to see national talent playing a leading role across all aspects of the project, and the capabilities we have built and nurtured over the past decade are delivering tangible results.

Work on the project is set to continue at scale, with more than 27 million cubic metres of earthworks completed thus far. Concrete works alone have exceeded 100,000 cubic metres, whilst tunnel excavation progress marks a key milestone. 80 structures are currently at various stages of construction, with 900 concrete piles and 130 box culverts installed thus far.

Additionally, work is also set to continue on a number of key facilities and associated infrastructure in Sohar and Al Buraimi, which will support the project’s future role in the connection of ports, industrial zones and logistics hubs, as well as enable cross-border freight movement within a fully integrated, regional transport network.

The Hafeet Rail project is intended to establish a foundation for future passenger rail services, supporting tourism, business mobility and social connectivity between both Oman and the UAE in alignment with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 and the UAE’s national development goals.
