Moldova’s railways will receive support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in the process of modernizing railway infrastructure and logistics.
These topics were discussed during a meeting attended by Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, Secretary of State Mircea Păscăluță, and representatives of JICA.
Analysis of logistics flows and the regional market
During the discussions, a report prepared with Japanese support was presented, examining transport flows across various modes, the status of imports and exports, as well as the demand for logistics services in the Republic of Moldova, Romania, and Ukraine. The study provides a detailed overview of regional transport dynamics.
An important objective highlighted in the document is encouraging the shift of freight transport from road to rail. This shift aims to optimize logistics chains and increase the sector’s economic competitiveness.
The parties analyzed opportunities for cooperation through short- and medium-term grant programs dedicated to the development of transport and logistics infrastructure in the Republic of Moldova.
Equipping CFM with modern equipment
A separate topic was the project to modernize the Moldovan Railway Company (CFM), which involves equipping it with the machinery, specialized vehicles, and rail vehicles necessary for infrastructure maintenance.
The possibility of organizing study visits to Japan for representatives of Moldovan institutions was also discussed, with the aim of learning from Japanese experience and best practices in the railway sector.
