The company responsible for developing Poland’s new airport, CPK (Centralny Port Komunikacyjny), announced that four consortia have submitted applications to participate in the competitive dialogue for the construction of the rail tunnel and station located beneath the future airport’s terminal.
The procedure covers both construction and design work, and the signing of contracts is scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.
Four consortia have submitted applications
The four consortia that have applied for admission to the competitive dialogue are: All participants are companies based in Poland, and CPK has emphasized the importance of local participation in this procedure.
- Mirbud (leader), together with Kobylaria and Torpol;
- Mostostal Warszawa (leader), together with NDI, NDI Sopot, and Intercor;
- PORR (leader), together with Gülermak;
- Strabag (leader), together with Tym-Bud.
According to the plan, a maximum of five bidders will be able to enter the next stage of the procedure—the competitive dialogue.
Station and tunnel beneath the future terminal
The tunnel and railway station are among the most important elements of the future airport, part of the project known in Poland as CPK, which combines the new aviation hub with a network of high-speed rail lines.
The platform hall will be partially located below ground level and will have a volume of over 1.6 million cubic meters, which, according to the investor, is nearly three times larger than Warsaw Central Station.
The tunnel will have a volume of approximately 3.5 million cubic meters and a total length of approximately 6 kilometers.
Up to 12 tracks in the station area
Rail lines 5, 85, and 88 will run through the tunnel.
From the east, six tracks will enter the tunnel, branching out in the station area to 12 tracks, two of which will be passing tracks. This configuration will allow for the construction of 10 platform edges.
On the western side, the lines will narrow back down to six. The western exit will provide connections to Gdańsk, Wrocław, and Łódź, while the eastern exit will provide direct access to Warsaw.
Contracts in 2027, commissioning in 2032
According to the current schedule, the awarding of the two parts of the contract and the signing of the agreements are planned for the first quarter of 2027.
The railway station and the tunnel under the new airport are expected to be put into service at the end of 2032, simultaneously with the opening of the high-speed rail section between Warsaw and Łódź.
Subsequently, the other branches of the future “Y”-shaped main line, toward Wrocław and Poznań, are expected to open by the end of 2035.
