Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) is continuing the renewal of its locomotive fleet with a multi-year investment of over 800 million USD in American manufacturing.
In 2025, CPKC completed the acquisition of 100 Tier 4 locomotives from Wabtec, produced at the company’s Texas facility. The railway operator has now confirmed plans to purchase an additional 30 Tier 4 locomotives from Progress Rail, which will be manufactured in Muncie, Indiana. Mark Redd, CPKC Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, said:
Our purchase of additional new Tier 4 locomotives, proudly made in the USA, continues CPKC’s commitment to renew our locomotive fleet through a more than US$800 million investment in American manufacturing capacity. We are investing in our road locomotive fleet for growth and to maintain our industry-leading service for our customers and the North American economy, powered by a fleet with improved reliability and fuel efficiency.
These acquisitions form part of CPKC’s previously announced multi-year capital plan aimed at modernising its locomotive fleet while maintaining service levels across North America.
