The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has begun constructing two new stations for the Riyadh Metro within King Saud University, as part of the Red Line extension project.

The development marks a further stage in the planned expansion of the metro network in the Saudi capital. The Red Line extension is intended to improve links between educational and healthcare facilities and key destinations in Diriyah, including cultural and tourism sites.

The RCRC previously awarded the contract for the design and construction of the extension, which will add 8.4 kilometres to the existing Red Line. The new section will run from King Saud University to the Diriyah Gate Development Project and will include five additional stations.

Two of these stations will be located on the university campus. One station will serve the University Medical City and associated health colleges, while the second will be positioned near the main university concourse to provide access for students, staff and visitors.

The project forms part of a wider strategy to develop an integrated and sustainable public transport network in Riyadh, in line with projected urban growth and increased demand for mobility.
