Metrolinx’s multi-year GO Expansion project, aimed at increasing capacity on the GO rail network in Greater Toronto, is entering its next stage.

The work will include signalling upgrades along the Lakeshore lines and significant construction on the Lakeshore East Line, covering tracks, stations, bridges, and grade separations.

Construction is ongoing across five GO corridors, with several major projects underway:

  • Grade separations: Three new separations are under construction at Burloak, Galloway, and Finch Avenue East.
  • Station upgrades: Work continues at Exhibition, Long Branch, Bloor, Aurora, King City, and Maple stations.
  • New stations: Five stations are being built, including Woodbine, East Harbour, Bloor–Lansdowne, St. Clair–Old Weston, and Caledonia.
  • Union Station enhancements: A new south concourse, wider platforms, and increased track capacity are in development.
  • Service extensions: Work is progressing to extend service to Kitchener and Bowmanville.

In recent years, GO Transit has completed several projects to increase capacity and reliability across the network. These include twin rail tunnels under Highways 401 and 409, and improvements at stations.

GO Expansion represents a long-term investment designed to improve rail travel across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, providing more frequent and reliable service for passengers in the years ahead.
