A new daily Amtrak Pacific Surfliner roundtrip between Los Angeles and San Diego will be introduced from 26 January 2026, increasing service frequency along Southern California’s main intercity rail corridor.
The Los Angeles–San Diego–San Luis Obispo (LOSSAN) Rail Corridor Agency announced that the additional service will bring the total number of daily roundtrips between Los Angeles and San Diego to 13. The change is intended to provide passengers with more flexibility and shorter waiting times between trains.

The revised timetable will take effect on 26 January 2026. To mark the introduction of the additional service, passengers travelling on the Pacific Surfliner between 26 January and 13 March 2026 will be eligible for a 20 percent fare discount using promotional code V526.
With the added roundtrip, Pacific Surfliner services will include 13 daily roundtrips between Los Angeles and San Diego, five daily roundtrips between San Diego and Goleta, and two daily roundtrips covering the full route between San Diego and San Luis Obispo. These service levels match those in place before the COVID-19 pandemic.
LOSSAN Managing Director Jason Jewell said:
Adding the 13th roundtrip between Los Angeles and San Diego marks a significant milestone in fully restoring pre-pandemic service levels. This additional roundtrip provides travellers with more options to choose the travel times that work best for them.
The restoration of service has been supported by a 27.1 million USD grant from the Federal Railroad Administration’s Restoration and Enhancement Grant Programme.
Passengers will continue to have access to Amtrak Connection bus services, which provide onward links to destinations including Oakland, Indio, Solvang, Paso Robles, Riverside and Palm Springs.
The Pacific Surfliner operates over 351 miles, serving 29 stations between San Diego and San Luis Obispo. Trains offer standard intercity amenities, including seating with power outlets, Wi-Fi, bicycle and luggage storage, and an onboard café.
