Alstom has joined the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in its celebration of the commencement of revenue service on the Delhi Metro’s new Line 7 and Line 8 extensions.

The extensions, which span from Majlis Park to Maujpur (Line 7 – Pink line) and Majlis Park to Deepali Chowk, are also set to be extended further to RK Ashram and Janakpuri (Line 8 – Magenta line) sometime in the future.

For its part in the project; Alstom supplied both a fleet of Metropolis metro trainsets and a suite of new signalling systems for the two line extensions.

Olivier Loison, Managing Director, Alstom India, said:

We are honoured and proud to be a long-standing partner of DMRC through its journey of becoming one of the world’s largest metro networks today.

Together, we are committed to providing a safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly travel experience to commuters and the Magenta and Pink line extension will truly enhance DMRC’s neural metro network connectivity in the region.

Thus far, Alstom has supplied 312 cars for the 312 million EUR Delhi Metro Phase IV project, all of which have been both designed and manufactured in India. They are designed to operate at speeds of 85 kph, with a top speed of 95 kph.

The company has also delivered more than 800 cars for use across the wider Delhi Metro network, with all units enabling the new service having been manufactured at Alstom’s facility in Sricity, Andhra Pradesh, its largest urban rolling stock manufacturing site in Asia.

Alongside the provision of new traincars; Alstom deployed its Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) system, Urbalis Flo, for the Line 7 extension. The technology has been designed to operate trains in the future with Grade of Automation (GOA) 4 driverless features, rendering Line 7 both the first circular line in the Delhi Metro Network and also the longest metro line with the highest Unattended Train Operation level (GoA4) in India.

Alstom recently strengthened its existing collaboration with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) by securing a 10-year maintenance contract for Lines 1 & 2, encompassing comprehensive annual maintenance of trains, machinery, plant systems, and housekeeping at DMRC’s Badli depot. The company has also partnered with the DMRC for a number of other projects, including the supply and commissioning of train control and signalling systems for DMRC’s Red line(L1), (Yellow Line (L2), Green Line (L5), Violet Line (L6), Pink Line (L7) during Phase I, II & III.
