Transilien, the suburban train network operated by SNCF Voyageurs in the Paris region, has announced a major recruitment program for 2026, with over 600 positions available, particularly for train drivers, maintenance staff, and customer service agents in stations. The initiative comes after a year in which the operator significantly exceeded its initial recruitment targets.

According to the company, the new hires are essential to support the growth of rail services in the Paris region, in the context of network expansion, rolling stock modernization, and natural departures from the system, particularly through retirements.

Targets exceeded in 2025

In 2025, Transilien SNCF Voyageurs recruited more than 950 employees, compared to an initial target of 800, exceeding the target by approximately 18%. Most of the recruitment was for operating and maintenance staff: train and RER drivers, customer service agents, and maintenance technicians.

These results were achieved through a large-scale mobilization effort, which included over 100 recruitment events in Île-de-France, dedicated communication campaigns, interventions in educational settings, and a large regional forum organized at the Théâtre Mogador in Paris.

The operator also collaborated with the public agency France Travail to more effectively target local labor pools.

Focus on driving and maintenance in 2026

For 2026, Transilien is aiming for a lower recruitment volume than in previous years, but focused on key positions for the operation of the network.

Of the more than 600 positions announced, approximately 400 will be for train and RER mechanics, 100 will be for qualified maintenance personnel, and another 100 will be for customer service agents in stations.

The company explains that these recruitments are closely linked to several structural developments: preparations for the launch of the EOLE project, which extends the RER E westward to Mantes-la-Jolie, the continuation of the rolling stock renewal program fully funded by Île-de-France Mobilités, and the modernization of maintenance workshops.

Diversity of profiles and in-house training

The positions are open to a wide range of profiles, from candidates without higher education to technical or university graduates.

For mechanic positions, Transilien offers comprehensive professional training, lasting approximately 12 months, conducted in-house and remunerated.

For maintenance jobs, skills in areas such as mechanics, electrical engineering, or electronics are sought, while for customer service roles, previous experience in services, commerce, or transport is required.

Commitments to inclusion and equality

Transilien SNCF Voyageurs emphasizes that its 2026 recruitment drive is part of a broader policy of inclusion, diversity, and equal opportunities.

The company runs apprenticeship programs and partnerships with technical high schools and training institutions, and apprentices make up over 5% of its workforce.

The operator also aims to increase the proportion of women in traditionally male-dominated professions, particularly in train driving and maintenance.

All job offers are available online, and a dedicated communication campaign will be launched in February, followed by a regional recruitment forum in the spring.
