Spanish rail unions have strongly cautioned against speculation linking track vibrations to the fatal Adamuz derailment, which killed 41 people and injured more than 100 on January 19. The Spanish Union of Railway Drivers (Semaf) clarified that a request to reduce speed due to vibrations back in October did not involve the track where the derailment occurred, contradicting some media reports. Union UGT stated, “They are trying to create an atmosphere of insecurity and panic that is simply not true.”
