CHINA: CRRC Nanjing Puzhen has unveiled the first trainset to a custom design for the future Hangzhou Metro Line 12, which will be the city’s first line equipped for unattended automatic operation.
Hangzhou’s Line 12 will have a fleet of 29 four-car trainsets and four six-car trainsets, designated Type AH.
The GoA4 system will cover the entire operating cycle, including automatic wake-up and shutdown, self-diagnostics, automated train washing, depot entry and exit, and automatic train operation on the main line at speeds up to 100 km/h with precise platform stopping and door alignment.
Unveiling the trainset in April, CRRC said the permanent-magnet traction motors offer energy savings of more than 20% compared with conventional metro traction systems.
The first phase of Line 12 will run fully underground for 26 km on a north–south corridor connecting the western districts of Hangzhou, including Hangzhou West railway station, Future Science & Technology City and Zhijiang New City.
Opening is planned by the end of 2027.
