Amtrak has celebrated the official acceptance of its first Airo trainset.

The unit, which departed from the Bear Maintenance Facility earlier this week, will now begin its cross-country journey west to Seattle.

Upon arrival in Washington; final testing will begin before the unit welcomes its first customers onboard.

Once service has officially begun, these new trains will operate on routes such as the Northeast Regional line, as well as the Empire Service, Virginia Services, Keystone Service, Downeaster, Amtrak Cascades, Maple Leaf, New Haven/Springfield Service, Palmetto, Carolinian, Pennsylvanian, Vermonter, Ethan Allen Express and Adirondack.

Designed and manufactured by Siemens Mobility; the trains aim to provide improved passenger amenities, including modern seating, larger restrooms and a ‘contemporary food service experience’.
