EuroMaint takes over Pågatågen fleet
In southern Sweden, EuroMaint will take over from Alstom maintenance of the X61 regional EMUs used on Pågatågen services under an agreement with VR Sverige. The contract award follows regional transport agency Skånetrafiken selecting the Swedish subsidiary of Finland’s state-owned rail group to continue operating Pågatågen services from December 2027. VR Sverige beat a rival bid from Transdev by a small margin, according to local reports.
EuroMaint will maintain 99 X61 units over a nine-year period, with most activities to be carried out at the Raus depot in Helsingborg, CAF said the work would focus on long-term planning, system reliability and fleet availability, with the aim of supporting stable operations and performance as the fleet matures. Skånetrafiken noted that the increasing age of the trains would place ‘high demands’ on the new supplier.
Green Cargo renews Rc/Rd locomotive deal
In the freight segment, Swedish logistics operator Green Cargo has renewed its multi-year contract for EuroMaint to maintain its Rc/Rd locomotives, which CAF described as ‘the backbone of one of Sweden’s largest freight fleets.’
The agreement continues a long-running maintenance partnership, with Green Cargo previously renewing the arrangement in December 2023 under a five-year contract. CAF said the new agreement covered both locomotive maintenance services and the supply of key components. Drawing on EuroMaint’s extensive network, which includes depots in Luleå, Vännäs, Sundsvall, Borlänge, Hallsberg, Örebro, Gothenburg and Malmö, the contract is intended to support increased fleet availability, greater operational flexibility and life-cycle cost optimisation.

The value of the latest contract was not disclosed, but the workload may be lighter than before. Green Cargo has been reducing its locomotive fleet amid continuing financial pressure, including the sale of around 30 Rc4 locomotives in 2024, equivalent to roughly 30% of its 100-strong class.
This was part of a wider fleet reduction, which has seen many locomotives being bought up by Nordic leasing companies and other freight operators. Green Cargo’s fleet director Claes Scheibe warned last year that more Rc4s could be sold if the operator did not win any major new contracts.
Norwegian infrastructure vehicles
EuroMaint has also expanded its Norwegian activities, winning a contract from Bane NOR to maintain infrastructure maintenance vehicles for a minimum of four years. Bane NOR’s internal transport business has around 1 000 pieces of equipment which it makes available for use by contractors working on infrastructure operations and maintenance, including about 100 traction units. Neither CAF nor Bane NOR has disclosed the value of the contract or the vehicles covered.
