This appointment reflects an evolution in Mechan’s leadership structure, designed to support both the business and the wider Group more effectively. Martin Dootson, who has successfully led Mechan while also holding responsibilities within its parent company, will now return to his role as Regional Manager at CIM Groupe. In doing so, Martin will focus more closely on Group-level activities, where his experience and strategic insight will continue to play a key role in driving broader success.

The transition to a dedicated, full-time Managing Director underlines Mechan’s commitment to strengthening its operational focus, ensuring stability, and unlocking new opportunities for sustainable growth.

Axel Kaiser joins Mechan with extensive international experience across manufacturing, operations, and engineering — from heavy industrial applications to highly regulated medical device environments. A dynamic and results-driven leader, Axel combines strong technical expertise with a proven ability to deliver operational excellence, lead high-performing teams, and drive strategic growth in complex, highly regulated markets.

In his new role, Axel will focus on accelerating Mechan’s growth strategy, enhancing operational performance, and deepening collaboration with customers and partners across the rail sector.

Axel Kaiser, Managing Director, Mechan, said:

I’m delighted to be joining Mechan at such an exciting point in its journey. The business has a strong reputation within the rail industry, and I look forward to working with the team to build on these foundations, strengthen partnerships, and explore new opportunities for growth.

Further reinforcing Mechan’s leadership team is the appointment of Athanasios Meretakis as Head of Engineering. Athanasios brings significant expertise in heavy steel structures and mechanical systems, alongside a strong track record in engineering leadership. His appointment will enhance Mechan’s technical capabilities, strengthen engineering processes, and support the continued development of its industry-leading product range.

Together, these appointments position Mechan strongly for the future — ensuring the business remains at the forefront of innovation, quality, and customer service within the rail industry.
