The Talgo trains for Leo Express were unveiled by the private operator on April 23 at an official ceremony, ahead of their entry into service on April 30, connecting the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Prior to the launch, Leo Express organized a presentation event where it revealed the interior design and onboard services available to passengers. In addition to Prague, the trains can also be seen in Pardubice, Olomouc, Otrokovice, Staré Město u Uherského Hradiště, Hodonín, and Břeclav, and later at the main station in Bratislava.

The new Talgo trains for Leo Express will begin operating on the Prague–Olomouc–Bratislava and Prague–Ostrava–Prešov routes.

“Leo Express is bringing innovation to the rail market in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Low-floor accessibility and exceptional passenger space, along with the passive tilting system based on independent wheels, are unique in Central Europe. These trains will also run on the Prague–Ostrava–Žilina–Prešov route and offer modern services, including a bistro car and Business and Economy classes,” said Peter Köhler, CEO of Leo Express.

The train presentation took place in the presence of the press, partners, and representatives of Renfe. “We are very pleased with this collaboration with Leo Express, which allows us to add new strategic routes and strengthen our presence in Central Europe,” said Álvaro Fernández Heredia, CEO of the Renfe Group.

Tickets are already on sale, with prices starting at EUR 4  for domestic and international trips.

Leo Express’s new Talgo trains offer high comfort

Talgo trains stand out for their generous seat spacing, low-floor design, and full accessibility, as well as catering services delivered directly to passengers’ seats or available in the bistro car.

The Talgo units operated by Leo Express are modern trains consisting of 13 cars, with a capacity of approximately 350 passengers. They use special articulated bogies with independently mounted wheels, which allow for gauge change while in motion. Thanks to their low center of gravity and passive tilting system, the trains offer a high level of comfort, even on winding routes.

The maximum speed is up to 200 km/h, and traction is provided by modern Vectron multi-system locomotives, supplied by Siemens Mobility.

The interior of the trains has been completely modernized, incorporating visual elements specific to the Leo Express brand. Passengers enjoy comfortable seats with leather headrests and an open-plan cabin design. The space between seats reaches up to one meter even in Economy class, offering comfort comparable to first class on other operators.

The trains offer two classes—Economy, with 308 seats, and Business, with 40 seats—as well as quiet zones dedicated to those who want a calm environment for work or relaxation.

Onboard services include the option to order food directly from your seat, a mobile minibar, and a modern bistro car. Additionally, some trains are equipped with snack and beverage vending machines, a microwave, and a water dispenser. In Business Class, passengers also have access to a self-service system for coffee and beverages.

For families, the trains feature a special children’s area with space for strollers and dedicated amenities, including loyalty programs for kids, special menus, and recreational activities that make the journey an enjoyable experience for all ages.
