Vossloh has completed the acquisition of Nordic Tamping Service AB (NTS), a Swedish specialist in ballast tamping, as it continues to build out its track maintenance and lifecycle services footprint in Scandinavia.
The deal was finalised on 9 January and sees NTS integrated into Vossloh’s Lifecycle Solutions business unit. NTS is based in Borlänge and operates primarily in Sweden and Norway, specialising in tamping ballast beds to stabilise track geometry, a core activity both during track installation and in ongoing maintenance regimes. Vossloh said the acquisition includes the company’s experienced teams as well as its full technical equipment, allowing it to add ballast tamping to its regional service offering.
“NTS completes our portfolio in Scandinavia,” said Vossloh CEO Oliver Schuster. “This enables us to offer our customers an even more comprehensive range of services from a single source than before.”
The deal strengthens an already sizeable Vossloh presence in Northern Europe. The group employs around 530 people across Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland, supplying turnouts, fastening systems and concrete sleepers, alongside providing track construction and maintenance services. Adding tamping capability allows Vossloh to cover another critical intervention in the track lifecycle, particularly in networks where maintenance windows are tight and asset performance is closely monitored.
The acquisition also fits into a broader pattern of targeted moves by Vossloh to deepen its service capabilities in the region. In 2024, the group agreed to acquire Scandinavian Track Group (STG), a Swedish provider of switch services, rail welding and related inspection and consulting activities.
