Northrail has sent the another three DE 18 locomotives to Sweden. From Vossloh Rolling Stock in Kiel they travelled, via Rostock by ferry, to Trelleborg. From there they continued their journey to BS Verkstäder in Falköping for ETCS commissioning. Northrail order 10 machines for duties in Sweden and Norway in 2024, with an option for 10 more.
Last year, locomotive 4185 048 was sent to Sweden as the trailblazer for this project. Since then, it has been renumbered as 92 74 4185 501-6 S-NRAIL.
The newest releases are:
- 92 74 4185 502-4 S-NRAIL with slogan ‘Built for the Nordic Transition’
- 92 74 4185 503-2 S-NRAIL
- 92 74 4185 504-0 S-NRAIL
The machines are equipped with signaling systems ETCS L2 (BL3 R2) and STM ATC-2. The locomotives have stage V compliant diesel engines with start-stop system that are compatible with synthetic HVO (Hydrogenated Vegetable Oils) fuel. The project’s financing is structured in collaboration with Northrail’s parent company, the RIVE Tangible Assets Income Fund, managed by RIVE Private Investment, a European investment firm.
