ITALY: Infrastructure, energy and railway systems specialist Tesmec has signed a strategic collaboration agreement with the University of Bergamo, aimed at fostering skills development, research and innovation.

The five-year agreement aims to promote Bergamo as a centre for the development of high-value relationships between research and industry, driving innovation and creating skilled employment opportunities. It was signed at a ceremony on April 9 attended by Tesmec CEO Carlo Caccia Dominioni, the university’s Rector Sergio Cavalieri and its Delegate for Technology Transfer Giuseppe Rosace.

The agreement establishes a joint Technical-Scientific Committee in order to strengthen collaboration between the university and the company. This covers teaching, advanced training and internships, as well as research projects and joint participation in national and international calls for proposals. The agreement is also expected to facilitate technology transfer and enhance research projects, reinforcing Bergamo’s role as a hub of innovation.

According to Tesmec, the collaboration ‘is rooted in a shared vision: strengthening the dialogue between university and industry to enhance knowledge and develop skills capable of addressing today’s and tomorrow’s key challenges, from the energy transition and the digitalisation of infrastructure to the evolution of production systems’.

It is intended to be ‘a concrete tool to generate value for the local area, by promoting technology transfer and supporting the entry of younger generations into the labour market. At the same time, it reaffirms the university’s role as a driver of innovation and a guiding force in aligning education with emerging market needs.’

The committee will be tasked with co-ordinating various initiatives, with the aim of integrating academic research and industrial applications, from the co-design of advanced training programmes within the Tesmec Academy to mutual support for teaching activities and the company’s hosting of students for internships and thesis projects.

‘This strategic collaboration with the University of Bergamo further strengthens a long-standing and fruitful relationship that we have consistently maintained with the university’, said Dominioni. ‘We firmly believe that synergy between university and industry is essential to foster innovation, develop advanced technological skills and create lasting value for the local area. Investing in knowledge and human capital means investing in the future. Tesmec aims to play a leading role in the modernisation of infrastructure, in shaping the future of energy and in contributing to the transformation of the industrial landscape in our country.’
