TAIWAN: Operator Taiwan Railways Corp has awarded Hitachi Rail a €37m contract to replace the current automatic train protection system on 63 EMU500 commuter trainsets.
Announcing the contract on April 23, Hitachi Rail said installing its ELO system on the trainsets would reduce the number of faults and increase operational efficiency. The work could also support a possible future upgrade to ETCS Level 2.
Hitachi Rail is a long-standing supplier to Taiwan. ‘This contract award underlines Hitachi Rail’s longstanding partnership with TRC which is expanding into the signalling sector’, said Gabriel Koe, Senior Director at Hitachi Rail Taiwan.
