The third new Airo trainset for the Amtrak Cascades programme has departed from Sacramento for testing on the Northeast Corridor.
The train has completed its manufacturing stage. The testing phase will now assess performance and safety before the units enter passenger service.

The Cascades route, operated by Amtrak, serves cities across the Pacific Northwest. The programme aims to replace older rolling stock and improve reliability on the corridor.
Built by Siemens in California and funded through the Federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, these trains represent a major investment in the region’s passenger rail system.
This latest movement represents the third completed unit out of a planned fleet of 83 Airo trainsets for operation across Amtrak’s network.
The introduction of the new trains on the Cascades corridor is expected later this year.
