Alstom has signed a contract with Mazovian Railways for the overhaul of 11 Traxx electric locomotives.
The agreement, valued at more than 96 million PLN, covers P5-level maintenance works to be carried out between 2026 and 2027. Each locomotive will be subject to a 19-month warranty period following acceptance by the operator.

Mazovian Railways operates regional passenger services across the Mazovian province, including the Warsaw metropolitan area, and is the largest regional rail operator in Poland.
Robert Stępień, CEO of Mazovian Railways said:
Mazovian Railways is one of the leaders in the passenger rail market. Last year, a record number of passengers used our services – over 70 million. We continuously improve the quality of our transport services by investing in the purchase of modern rolling stock. In 2023–2025 alone, we signed contracts for the purchase of 101 vehicles of various types.
We also focus on modernising the vehicles already in operation, including Traxx locomotives. Thanks to them, we were the first operator in the country to launch push‑pull services. Locomotives play a key role in operating accelerated services on lines with high passenger volumes. The major overhaul they will soon undergo will undoubtedly contribute to improved safety and travel comfort on our trains.
The scope of the overhauls includes inspections, diagnostics and repairs of mechanical, electrical and pneumatic systems, in line with maintenance and technical documentation. Work will also involve refurbishment of bogies, including non-destructive testing such as ultrasonic and magnetic particle inspections, as well as wheelset servicing. Exterior repainting of locomotive bodies is also included.
The programme will be supported by Alstom’s FlexCare Perform service solutions, intended to maintain operational performance and availability across the fleet.
Beata Rusinowicz, Managing Director of Alstom in Poland said:
We are pleased that in the coming quarters we will be supporting Mazovian Railways in modernising its fleet, enabling Traxx locomotives to reliably serve the regional operator, which has been breaking passenger transport records, for many years to come.
Worldwide, Alstom currently provides maintenance services for more than 2,450 locomotives, including over 600 modern multi-system Traxx locomotives. We proudly observe the growing position of Traxx locomotives on the Polish market as one of the pillars of safe, reliable and cost-effective railways, both in passenger and freight transport.
In Alstom’s Polish sites, we are continuously developing the value chain related to the production and maintenance of Traxx locomotives – from manufacturing key components to consistently strengthening service capabilities.
Traxx locomotives are part of a modular platform used in both passenger and freight transport, including domestic and cross-border services. The units are available in different configurations, including AC, DC and multi-system variants.
More than 100 Traxx locomotives are currently in service in Poland, with additional units on order. Components for the locomotives, including car bodies, are manufactured in Wrocław, forming part of the wider supply chain for the platform.
