SBB and SNCF Voyageurs have extended their existing commercial agreement for the 2023–2027 period regarding the TGV Lyria service through 2032.

The agreement was signed by Vincent Ducrot, CEO of SBB, and Jean Castex, Chairman and CEO of the SNCF Group.

“I am delighted to extend our long-standing collaboration with SBB, as this marks a new step in the rollout of TGV Lyria. Offering new services and new destinations has always been central to our partnership and to the SNCF Group’s strategy. It is a real asset for low-carbon high-speed mobility in Europe,” said Jean Castex, CEO of the SNCF Group.

The two companies are thus securing the future of the long-standing connection between Switzerland and France and are committed to exploring various development opportunities between the two countries, as well as to the rest of Europe.

With the extension of this historic 45-year-old agreement, SBB and SNCF Voyageurs reaffirm their commitment to continue cooperating in the coming years to develop the rail market between France and Switzerland through their TGV Lyria service.

In response to the dynamic growth of long-distance travel between the two countries and building on the commercial success of TGV Lyria, SBB and SNCF Voyageurs express their commitment to continuing and strengthening this long-term cooperation and to actively collaborating on the development of international passenger transport services.

The TGV Lyria service connects Paris to major Swiss cities

The TGV Lyria cross-border high-speed service is the main rail service between France and Switzerland, operating on three lines: During the summer season, a fourth high-speed train runs daily between Lausanne, via Geneva, and, new this year, Marseille from April through November, when passengers can use this service from Thursday through Monday and daily in July and August.

  • Paris – Geneva;
  • Paris – Lausanne;
  • Paris – Basel – Zurich.

With 5.7 million passengers carried in 2025, the TGV Lyria service is consolidating its position as the leading rail service between Switzerland and France. TGV Lyria connects stations located directly in city centers and offers up to 18,000 seats with its 17 daily round-trip services between Switzerland and France.

Expansion into Europe

Furthermore, to meet the growing demand for international travel, the two railway companies will explore opportunities to develop European connections from Switzerland. This will involve analyzing expansions and the establishment of new direct long-distance rail services from Switzerland to France and beyond.

“By expanding our partnership, we are ensuring Switzerland has a strong, reliable, and sustainable long-term connection to France and, consequently, to the main European hubs. Strong demand proves this: international rail connections are of central importance to the economy, tourism, and the population. Together with SNCF Voyageurs, we aim to further develop this potential,” said Vincent Ducrot, CEO of SBB.
