The partnership forms part of Frauscher UK’s corporate social responsibility CSR initiatives, aimed at promoting safety awareness beyond railway infrastructure. The initiative was introduced through Frauscher UK’s Quality, Environment, Health and Safety QEHS function, which identified the Rail Safe Friendly programme as an opportunity to support rail safety education in schools located near railway infrastructure.

Rail Safe Friendly is an educational programme that helps schools raise awareness of the dangers associated with the railway and encourage safe behaviour around rail infrastructure. By working with schools and providing engaging safety resources, the programme helps students better understand the risks around railways and how to stay safe.

Frauscher’s Commitment to Rail Safety

As part of the partnership, Frauscher UK supported the initiative by identifying schools in relevant locations and enabling the programme to reach communities close to the railway. Through this collaboration, the Rail Safe Friendly team delivered the educational content and resources directly to participating schools.

Impact of the Partnership

During the first year of the initiative, the programme reached 10 Bronze-level schools across Hampshire and surrounding areas, engaging more than 5,350 young people from both primary and secondary schools with rail safety education. This impact was made possible through Frauscher UK’s significant contribution, which supported the delivery of the Rail Safe Friendly programme across participating schools.

Through its support of the programme, Frauscher UK also contributed to the creation of an estimated £152,261 in social value, reflecting the wider positive impact of the initiative on local communities and rail safety awareness.

Continued Commitment

Teachers involved in the programme highlighted the value of the initiative in delivering clear and engaging safety messages to students. One participating school, Talavera Junior School, GU11

1RG, described the content as “a very clear message presented in an engaging way with information that teachers don’t always have.”

Following the success of the first year, Frauscher UK has decided to continue supporting the initiative, with the aim of helping extend rail safety awareness to even more schools in the coming year.

Looking ahead

By continuing its involvement in the programme, Frauscher UK reinforces its broader commitment to promoting safety across the railway sector and within the communities it serves.

Melanie Gangl-Verma, Managing Director at Frauscher UK Ltd., says:

Safety is fundamental to the railway industry. While our technologies contribute to the safe and reliable operation of railway networks, it is equally important to raise awareness within local communities. Supporting initiatives such as Rail Safe Friendly allows us to contribute to rail safety education and help young people better understand the risks around the railway.
