Chehalis-Centralia Railroad & Museum

The Chehalis-Centralia Railroad & Museum, located in Chehalis, Washington, offers a charming glimpse into the past with its vintage train excursions. Operated by dedicated volunteers, this historic railroad takes visitors on an enchanting journey through the scenic farmlands and rolling hills of Lewis County.

Passengers can ride in restored 1920s coaches pulled by a classic century-old steam locomotive. The museum features historical exhibits showcasing regional railroading history and the impact of trains on local development. Offering seasonal and themed rides, the railroad provides a delightful experience for families and enthusiasts, celebrating the romance and history of classic rail travel.

During Easter, the railroad hosts special “Easter Eggspress” rides that combine the joy of a train journey with the fun of an Easter egg hunt.

What to Expect

Easter Egg Hunt: Following the 75-minute round trip, the kids can enjoy an Easter Egg hunt and other activities, including face painting and sweet treats.

Scenic Views: The route takes you through lush farmlands and alongside the scenic Chehalis River, offering stunning views of Mount Rainier on clear days.

Mount Rainier Scenic Railroad

Nestled in the woods near Mount Rainier, this rail line offers a spectacular journey through some of Washington’s most pristine wilderness. This historic excursion train features vintage locomotives and passenger cars, taking travelers on a scenic route through lush forests, over mountainous bridges, and past sparkling rivers.

Highlighting the rich history of Northwest logging, MRSR includes stops at a museum with exhibits showcasing steam engines and logging memorabilia. The railroad provides a memorable experience for families, history buffs, and train enthusiasts, celebrating the region’s heritage while offering awe-inspiring views of the iconic Mount Rainier.  During Easter, the Mount Rainier Scenic Railroad organizes the Easter Bunny Express for the kids.

What to Expect

Easter-Themed Ride: The Easter Bunny Express is a 2 hour and 25 minute trip that offers either coach class or an open-air car to enjoy the spring trip.  Afterwards, kids can take part in an Easter Egg hunt and other fun activities.

Stunning Landscapes: The train passes through dense forests, over trestle bridges, and offers majestic views of Mount Rainier itself.

Lake Whatcom Railway

The Lake Whatcom Railway, based in Acme, Washington, in the northwestern corner of the state offers train rides during select times of the year, lasting about an hour-and-a-half.   One of their specials is an Easter Bunny Train, which operates during the spring.  This trip – during which time the Easter Bunny rides along – takes the kids out to an Easter Egg patch to hunt for eggs.
