All trams will be fully low-floor, and be comprised of five-section units equipped with an anti-collision system designed to enhance overall operational safety.

Delivery for the fleet is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, with the company also contracted to provide a three-year full-service maintenance package.

Zdeněk Sváta, Member of the Board and COO of Škoda Group, said:

The unveiling of the first tram for Bergamo represents an important milestone for us.

The project confirms that Škoda Group is capable of delivering modern, safe, and reliable urban transport solutions to our Italian partners, fully aligned with the current needs of operators and passengers.

The new trams have been designed with an emphasis on passenger comfort, safety and operational reliability. Its bidirectional design is hoped to allow flexible operation on the new line, whilst its fully low-floor configuration is expected to ensure easy access for all passengers, including those with reduced mobility.

Capable of top speeds of 70km/h; all units will be equipped with a modern anti-collision system, which actively monitors space in front of the vehicle and aims to help prevent potential hazards within urban traffic. The integration of remote diagnostics allows for real-time monitoring of the tram’s technical condition whilst supporting proactive maintenance.

Delivery of the trams forms part of Škoda’s broader scope of activities in Italy, which has begun to be considered one of the group’s key strategic markets within Southern Europe. Currently, the company is working to deliver Italian projects with a total value exceeding 250 million EUR. In addition to Bergamo, these also include the production of night trains in cooperation with a local partner, as well as the supply of electrical equipment and traction batteries for 112 trolleybuses in Genoa.
