In late 2024, we reported on the new startup Silverstar Railways, which aims to bring a new open-access passenger service to Austria. Now, almost 1.5 years later, we see a first visual glimpse of this upcoming operator, in the form of a stickered Vectron.
Silverstar Railways has so far already been established as a freight operator and service provider, which remains the focus of the company for now. The first locomotive in their own livery now marks a next step in the ambitions of the operator.
Akiem’s 6193 845 (yes, one of two blue ones, ex MGW) now carries the name ‘Johann’ and is named after the grandfather of founder and CEO Patrick Kröll. A celebratory unveiling of the locomotive took place at Vienna on 31.01.2026 The design features a mountainous motif, which blends into the Vectron headlights and with a skyline underneath.
