Alpha Trains is the next customer for Stadler’s Euro9000, following Stadler-linked ELP. Since 2023, the leasing company has had twelve locomotives on order, all configured as multi-system units with additional diesel power. This makes it a good moment to take a closer look at the first locomotive released.
Alpha Trains ordered the Euro9000 equipped with two diesel engines, each rated at 950 kW, combined with full multi-system capability:
- 9,000 kW under 15 kV AC / 25 kV AC
- 6,000 kW under 3 kV DC
- 4,000 kW under 1.5 kV DC
- Safety systems: ETCS, PZB, SCMT, RSC, STM ATB EG, TBL1+
Like the ELP-machines, Alpha Trains offer their Euro9000 with authorizations for DE / AT / CH / IT / BE / NL.
On 8 January 2026, the lime-silver 90 80 2019 400-1 D-ATLU was spotted in Lyon, France, together with Stadler pre-series locomotive 90 80 2019 301-1 D-STAVA. Its appearance comes at an opportune moment, as the final missing authorization (for Italy) has now received the green light. Delivery was originally announced for 2025-2026, so the project is slightly delayed.
In 2024, Alpha Trains signed a full-service maintenance agreement with Stadler covering all of its future Euro9000 locomotives. The contract provides complete maintenance for a period of ten years, starting from the delivery of each locomotive. It includes preventive, corrective, and heavy maintenance. The project is supported with EUR 15 million in funding from the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) under the ministry’s rail funding guideline.
